Cocoon Suit (2001 - present)
I came across information about weighted blankets in 2001 and realized that I needed such a thing in my life. I decided to sew a cocoon suit for myself for the complete coziness caterpillars enjoy. The suit is made of layers of brown fleece, sewn together. I sewed 4 pennies at a time in the rows, quilting them in to make it heavy. I also made a pillow and a cap based on a pattern designed by a fellow artist. I love doing the same thing over and over so I really enjoyed sewing the pennies into place. It is made to my measurements (5 feet, 8 inches - 1.73 meters). I have spent time in it over the years--there is a feeling of peace and comfort and complete satisfaction when I settle down into the suit. I have patched it over the years but it has held up surprisingly well. I highly recommend the experience, but you don't have to sew a cocoon suit--weighted blankets are now easy to find.
